Government Building | Jinan, China

The design for a government building and office towers was achieved with the goal of combining traditional and contemporary aesthetics. Utilizing traditional elements, such as a raised base, large colonnade, cut stone façade, and zinc roofs, the main building provides a sense of stability and timelessness, while a more modern bell tower calls toward the future.

The site, which fronts a large public greenway, provided the opportunity to sculpt a vista through the use of landscape design. A long alley of trees on either side of a grand waterscape was suggested to create a strong linear connection between the building and the greenway. This water feature extends up to the main entry of the project, drawing workers and visitors alike into the site.
